CASE UPDATE

The Nuhanovic Foundation was actively engaged in the processes of transitional justice in Bosnia. Through our partner TRIAL, we supported litigation on behalf of relatives of persons who disappeared during the Bosnian war (1991-1995). TRIAL pushed Bosnian authorities to investigate locations of graves, prosecute those responsible of international crimes and provide reparations to relatives of missing persons. Moreover, TRIAL won four cases before the UN Human Rights Committee, where Bosnian authorities were requested to provide effective remedies for war victims. The UN Committee requested Bosnia to abolish the obligation to declare the disappeared “dead”, so as to allow the relatives to benefit from social allowances and compensations, and ensure the availability of information regarding the investigation.
