Reparations Database
This Airwars report reconstructs the events of June 16 and 17, 2007 that unfolded in the attack by Dutch-led NATO forces on a quala in the Afghan Chora valley killing at least 11 civilians. The report also illustrates the steps taken by the victims after 2007 in their search for justice that finally came about after 15 years. In November 2022 a Dutch court ruled that the Dutch State had not been able to disprove the claimants’ allegation that the bombing was unlawful for failing to observe the principle of distinction, as it could not show adequate documentation of its pre-attack intelligence. Lawyer Liesbeth Zegveld, her team and the claimants are currently (spring 2024) negotiating the extent of logistics of reparations.
