Two Somali victims of drone attacks are preparing a lawsuit against the Dutch state. They are nomads who were hit in January 2014 by a US missile. One of them lost a leg and his two daughters were killed. Their livestock was destroyed. In carrying out the attack, the US used information gathered by the Dutch Defence Intelligence and Security Service. The victims purport that the Netherlands share responsibility for the attack and claim that the Dutch State has committed a wrongful act by violating international law, in particular human rights and international humanitarian law. They seek a declaratory judgment concerning the liability of the Dutch State. The monetary compensation level will be determined at a later stage.
