Aljazeera Report – No Compensation for attack on Dawabsheh family – SUMMARY
This report describes the firebombing, by masked terrorists believed to be Israeli settlers, of the Dawabsheh family home in the West Bank town of Duma, not far from Nablus. The fatal attack was condemned by Israel’s President Netanyahu, yet the incident exposes once again the very different fate of Palestinians and Jewish Israelis when it comes to reparations for terrorist-inflicted harm.
Unlike Israeli settlers in the West Bank, the Dawabsheh family is not eligible for compensation under Israel’s law for victims of terrorism, since they are not citizens or residents of the state. And while they may petition a Defense Ministry compensation committee to consider their case, they have no legal recourse to contest its decision.
